There may have been a stone (likely onyx) that was inlaid into the space behind the pearl

but it's difficult to pin down which as both places produced these

though both are eye clean

The rim is decorated with a pretty, high relief border of flowers and leaves. This decoration is all cast separately and applied. The center of the bowl is engraved with MS in an elegant script. The underside of the dish is marked with a makers mark for Alvin, which has been stamped over with the retailers mark for Black, Starr & Frost. Look
